Lake Victoria is in the continent of Africa. Lake Victoria was discovered by the British John Hanning Speke in 1858 for the European settler, and the lake was named after Queen Victoria by the discoverer.
Lake Victoria has a maximum length of 359 km (223 mi) and a width of 337 km (209 mi). Lake Victoria has an average depth of 41 m (135 ft) with a maximum depth of 81 m (266 ft). Lake Victoria has a surface area of 59,947 km (23,146 sq mi).
The Lake Victoria basin spans five countries: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa by area and the largest tropical lake in the world.
Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area, after Lake Superior in North America. Lake Victoria is the ninth largest continental lake in the world by volume.
The catchment area of Lake Victoria covers 169,858 km (65,583 sq mi) and the shoreline of the lake is 7,142 km (4,438 mi).

Many species of fish especially cichlids, aggressive fish Nile perch and others are found in Lake Victoria.
